A 30-year-old labourer who allegedly raped a woman in Princes Town has been remanded in custody.
Declon Mclean appeared virtually before Princes Town Magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine charged with one count of rape.
It is alleged that on February 18 he had sexual intercourse with the 22-year-old woman against her will in some bushes at Buen Intento Extension Road.
When he was done, he allegedly ran off and left her in the bushes. The victim quickly made her way to the roadway and stopped a passing police vehicle.
Court Pprosecutor Sgt Shazeed Mohammed asked for an opportunity be given to have a trace done to determine whether he had a criminal record.
The magistrate remanded Mclean into custody for tracing and adjourned the matter to tomorrow.
