One man was arrested following a police-involved shooting incident in Princes Town on Tuesday night.
According to a police report, at about 8.30 pm, officers of the Southern Division were on mobile patrol along Mandingo Road when they received information about men armed with guns, travelling in a convoy consisting of three vehicles.
The officers subsequently spotted one of the vehicles, a white Mitsubishi panel van and attempted to intercept it. They were shot at by its occupants.
In accordance with the Use of Force policy, officers returned fire in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
It came to a halt and two male suspects ran off into some nearby bushes.
Assistance was sought to find and apprehend the suspects. Officers of the Ste. Madeleine Police Station, the Southern Division Task Force, the Princes Town Police Station and Criminal Investigations Department, the Barrackpore Police Station and the Emergency Response Patrol Unit, joined in the search.
Following an extensive search of the area, a 28-year-old man of Orangefield Road, Carapichaima, was held in connection with the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
