President General of the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union Ancel Roget speaks at a press conference at Paramount Building, in San Fernando yesterday.

The Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union led by President General Ancel Roget will have their say about the purchase of luxury vehicles by the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers.

In a statement yesterday, the OWTU said it will host a news conference today, (Monday 12th July 2021) to address statements made by the Prime Minister at the COVID-19 Press Conference on Saturday regarding the purchase of luxury vehicles during the pandemic by Ministers and the current retrenchments of workers at state enterprises.

Last week Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young said he was not sorry for his purchase and indicated that at the time the economic situation in the country was looking up when asked about the optics given the plight of many in the country due to COVID.

The Prime Minister also defended the purchase, revealing he too bought a vehicle, saying it was a legal entitlement.
