The following is a press release from the CZITT:

The Embassy of Panama in Trinidad and Tobago made a donation to the Carbon Zero Institute of Trinidad and Tobago, CZITT, in support of its work in climate change awareness and action.

The donation comprised idle assets in the form of two retired vehicles. CZITT (pronounced “Seize it!”) will monetise the vehicles and use the proceeds towards its Sustainable Agricultural Carbon Sink project.

This project addresses the dual need to reduce or sequester carbon emissions and to increase food production. The vehicles were handed over in a simple ceremony at the Panamanian Embassy on Gray Street, St Clair on 2022 March 26.

Speaking at the handover, Her Excellency Selvia Edith Miller Palmer expressed her delight at the fruitful culmination of several months of communication and paperwork. “I am very pleased to make this donation on behalf of the Government of Panama. It is a representation of our commitment to the global imperative of combating climate change. We are happy to assist the Carbon Zero Institute of Trinidad and Tobago, an organisation that stands out in progressive actions towards realisation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

Mr Donald Baldeosingh, Founder of the CZITT expressed deepest appreciation to the Ambassador for using an innovative approach to disposing of idle assets while supporting the non-profit company. “We at CZITT are challenged daily with the amount of work needed to be done, and the relatively low levels of corporate engagement locally. Our e-learning platform for example has provided support for more than 10,000 stranded students in the Caribbean, but 600,000 secondary school students have been impacted by covid-19.”

Both Ambassador Palmer and Mr Baldeosingh showered praises on Mr Nigel Seenathsingh, Businessman and Philanthropist, for identifying the opportunity to create value and for bringing the parties together. CZITT is seeking other partners for its Sustainable Agricultural Carbon Sink project, e-learning platform, and the television production of the National Secondary Schools Climate Quiz.
