Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley speaks during Friday’s sitting of Parliament.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has accused ILP (Independent Liberal Party) leader Jack Warner of lying about brokering a political alliance between the PNM and the ILP.

He was responding to an article in which Warner claimed he had an alliance with Rowley during the 2015 election.

Jack Warner, the ILP candidate for Lopinot/Bon Air West alleged that after his falling out with the United National Congress (UNC) he entered into frequent talks with then opposition leader Dr Rowley at a house in Westmoorings to discuss several strategies which would aid the PNM.

Rowley later posted on his Facebook page “He’s lying. I did meet him at Kenny’s house because Kenny is a mutual friend and we chatted generally. There was never any political deal made.

“Jack is lying. After the Local Election, he proposed to us that we combine to take control of the Chaguanas Corporation since the combined PNM/ ILP seats were more than the UNC.

“We declined the offer and went into the Opposition in Chaguanas and the UNC got the Chairmanship as a minority, but the party with the largest number of seats.

“One ILP councilor crossed the floor to bolster the minority UNC. Jack Warner slandered him to explain his move and ended up being sued and had to pay a substantial amount of money in the Court. This man claims he never lost anything he ever engaged in.”

“Yeah Right!”

Warner sticks to his guns

At a walkabout in Tacarigua on Saturday, Warner stuck to his guns.

Warner said the media should call Kenny De Silva (former National Carnival Commission chairman) and he will corroborate what he (Warner) has said.

Contacted on Saturday, De Silva said both the PM and Warner are his friends “up to this day.”

“Mr Warner and Mr Rowley are both house friends of mine for many, many years. Mr Rowley, before he was Prime Minister was my friend and Mr Warner before he was in politics was my friend. We go back many, many years. They have been to my home several times but not together,” De Silva added.
