A police officer sustained severe burns about his body while cooking at a friend’s house on Wednesday.

The injured officer has been identified as PC Olton.

According to a police report, at about 6:44 am Olton whilst cooking at the home of his friend at Santa Rosa Heights, Arima, the oil in the pot caught on fire and he took up the pot and in attempting to go out the back door slipped and fell on the tiled floor causing the pot and its contents to fall on him. He was burnt on the face, neck, chest, hands and feet.

He was taken to the Arima Hospital where he was attended to and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Centre via ambulance.

He was attended too by a doctor and warded in the Adult Surgical Ward for observation.

Due to the severity of the burns he was sedated and visiting officers from the Pinto Police Post were unable to interview him.
