A Prisons Officer has been charged by the Fraud Squad with four counts of uttering a forged document.

A release from the Police Service confirms that 40-year-old NIGEL PARIAG, a prisons officer with 15 years’ service, was charged with the offences on Thursday 25th March 2021.

The charges come after PARIAG allegedly tendered medical certificates, supposedly from the San Fernando General Hospital, between October 2015 and February 2016.

Investigations conducted by Sgt (Ag.) Toney of the Fraud Squad revealed that the documents, which were intended to support leave applications, reportedly were forged.

PARIAG, a Prison Officer I, was granted bail in the sum of $60,000 and is expected to appear in a virtual hearing before the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court on Friday April 9th, 2021.
