Laventille resident Kareem “Fong” Thomas was gunned down in Diego Martin on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old air- condition technician, of Desperlie Crescent, was shot dead around 12.30 pm, at a job site in the vicinity of Victoria Villas, Four Roads, Diego Martin.

Officers on patrol were alerted after residents reported hearing loud explosions, and arrived at the Diego Martin Regional Administrative Complex at Kenneth Valley Circular, West Park Savannah, Four Roads, to find Thomas lying on his right side at the construction site with gunshot wounds about the upper body.

Reports claimed Thomas had been speaking to a co-worker when the gunman opened fire on the two. As Thomas ran onto the job site, the 33-year-old co-worker hid in some nearby bushes.

He emerged a short while later and found Thomas lying at the site. He alerted safety officers.

Investigators, who visited the scene, retrieved 13 shell casings.

Although Thomas’s post mortem was expected to be done yesterday and his family would have gone to the Forensic Science Centre, St James – it will instead take place today.

Meanwhile, Thomas’s family requested people to desist from sharing what is believed to be a picture of him lying dead at the job site.

Relatives yesterday denied this was him, and instead indicated the snap was of an individual with the same name that had been killed previously and was being shared via social media.

Up to yesterday, investigators were yet to establish a motive for the murder. No one has been held in connection with the killing.
