Motorists going about their business on Friday morning have been reporting major police roadblocks across the country.

Guardian Media understands that from around 7.30am, police officers began stopping traffic along the North and South bound lanes of the Sir Solomon Hochoy highway.

Within minutes, reports of roadblocks along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, in Diego Martin, on the Lady Young Road, in several areas in and around Port of Spain, in Chaguanas, in Freeport, along the Eastern Main Road and in San Fernando began circulating on social media sites.

There have also been reports of similar exercises in Tobago.

The exercises have caused major traffic pile ups along the nation’s roadways.

One motorist said when police pulled him over, he was asked what was his reason for being on the road.

He also reported that police were inspecting vehicles and issuing tickets.

Over the last weekend, the TTPS said it issued over $100,000 in fines to errant drivers during roadblock exercises across the country.

This is a developing story and it will be updated throughout the day.
