Second man charged with Venezuelan’s murder
A second man has been charged with the murder of a Venezuelan national.
A police release said Jevon Baptiste was due to appear in the Princes Town Magistrates’
Court yesterday after he was charged on Wednesday with the murder of Jesus Alexander Alvarez.
The 34-year-old labourer, of La Lune Village, Moruga, was charged relative to the circumstances surrounding the death of the Venezuelan following the advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Joan Honore-Paul.
On June 8,, 2021, a group of Venezuelans were at a beach along the La Lune coastline in Moruga, when they were accosted by a group of men.
The assailants allegedly robbed the group of a quantity of cash, jewelry and cell phones.
During the incident, Alvarez was shot and killed.
Another man, Anderson Hill was previously charged with the murder of Alvarez

Curepe man shot dead
A man from Curepe is the country’s latest murder victim.
He has been identified as Dave Phillip, of Ramgoolie Street.
According to a police report, at about 6.50 pm on Wednesday Phillip was found dead on the roadway on Ramgoolie Street.
Police said he was shot several times.
Crime scene personnel processed the scene and retrieved eight 9mm spent shells one a cutlass.
Investigations are continuing.
Soldier charged with disorderly behaviour
A 41-year-old corporal of the Defence Force has been granted $1,000 bail by Justice of the Peace Oliver Boodhu after he was charged with breaching the Public Health Regulations and disorderly behaviour.
A police release said Tevin Alfred, of Mango Alley, Trou Macaque, Laventille, was arrested and charged by WPC Mayers, of the Port of Spain City Police Task Force.
He has 20 years’ service in the TTDF and was last attached to Camp Ogden.
A police release said while on patrol along Charlotte Street on Wednesday, a group of people were observed gathered in the vicinity of Lucky Bakery.
Officers approached the group and instructed them to disperse. They saw Alfred smoking a cigarette with a face mask under his chin. When he was instructed to wear his face mask properly began behaving in a disorderly manner.
He was arrested and taken to the City Police Headquarters.
He will appear before the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court on July 27
