A security officer was fatally shot while on duty at a medical office in Philippine, near San Fernando, early this morning.  Tojay Ricketts, 28, a Jamaican national who lived at Indian Walk, Moruga, died at the scene.

Police said around 1:25 am, Ricketts—who was employed at Travtech Security Services Ltd—was standing in the car park at Sawh’s Medical Associates when a dark coloured vehicle pulled up and a gunman came out.

Ricketts started to run as the gunman opened fire on him.

He collapsed and died a short distance away. The gunman escaped in the vehicle.

The scene was visited by ASP Jaikaran, ASP Bertie, Insp Phillip and other officers attached to the Southern Division.

Police are still trying to ascertain a motive for the killing.

Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region Three are investigating.
