Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan says there will be no further extension in the roll out of the demerit point system in this country.
The system was supposed to take effect on March 2, however, it was announced that the proclamation would instead take place one month later, April 2nd.
Speaking at the Post Cabinet News Conference on Thursday Minister Sinanan rejected an editorial in a daily newspaper and affirmed that the system is ready for full rollout.
He explained that the month grace period was given because of a noticeable increase in people going into licensing office to take corrective actions.
He said in the meantime the new devices are being used and people are still being charged under the old system.
He said come April 2 demerit points will be deducted from motorists.
