Several police exercises over the holiday weekend has resulted in the arrest of six people for possession of illegal weapons and / or ammunition.

Police officers in Central Division and Western Division were carrying out routine patrols and road checks when they encountered the various suspects, whom they eventually arrested.

One man is currently assisting Western Division detectives with their investigations into the discovery of several rounds of ammunition on January 1st.  

A manhunt has also been launched for another suspect who evaded arrest.

The TTPS reports that at 7:30 pm on Friday 1st January 2021, a party of officers were on a routine patrol along School Street, Carenage, when they stopped a blue Toyota Corolla motor vehicle.

Upon instruction of the police officers to exit the vehicle, both male suspects ran away from the police, in the opposite direction.

A foot pursuit ensued and one of the suspects was held a short distance away.  The 18-year-old was the front seat passenger in the vehicle that had been stopped.

A search was conducted of the vehicle in the presence of the suspect, where police allegedly found 11 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition.

The man was unable to provide any documentation certifying his possession of the ammunition and he was immediately arrested.

A warrant has since been issued for the arrest of the driver.

Gang Unit arrests man with gun, ammo in Enterprise

A 25-year-old man is expected to be charged for possession of firearm and ammunition following an anti-gang operation in Enterprise yesterday, Saturday 2 January 2021.

According to a Police Service report, at 8:45 pm on January 2nd, officers of the Central Division Gang Unit (CDGU) were on patrol in the Enterprise area when they saw a group of men acting suspiciously.

CDGU officers subsequently detained the men and proceeded to search them.

During the search, CDGU officers allegedly found a Glock with a magazine outfitted with five rounds of .40 calibre ammunition on a 25-year-old man of Rita Street, Enterprise.

He was immediately arrested and taken into police custody.

The CDGU is continuing investigations into the find.

Four men to be charged for gun, ammo possession in Carenage

Four men are expected to be jointly charged for possession of a firearm and ammunition, which were seized during a road check early on Saturday morning.

The men, ages 23 to 25 years, were arrested when officers of the Western Division Operations conducted a roadblock in the vicinity of Massy Stores, Western Main Road, Carenage, on Saturday January 2nd.

The Police Service says while road checks were in progress, a dark blue Toyota Yaris was seen with four male occupants who were acting strangely.

The officers stopped and searched the vehicle, following which they allegedly found one silver revolver with six rounds of .38 ammunition in the centre console between the driver and front seat passenger.

All four occupants were immediately arrested and taken to the West End Police Station.

They are expected to be charged with possession of firearm and ammunition.
