A teen suspect in the kidnapping of Dr Rudradeva Sharma and Dr Prem Vijay Naidoo is expected to appear in the San Fernando Magistrates Court Wednesday charged with murder, kidnapping, and robbery.
The 17-year-old San Fernando resident, who has been in custody at the Child Protection Unit at the Oropouche Police Station since his release from the hospital, will be brought to court in a wheelchair. The law states that the teenager cannot be identified because of his age. His alleged accomplice, Antonio Francois, appeared in the same court on January 23 on six charges.
The charges alleged that on January 15 he robbed the two doctors, kidnapped them and murdered Sharma and Marine. The charges were laid by WCpl Bassarath. On the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the police laid similar charges against the teenager who is still at CPU.
Police said after the doctors finished their shift at the San Fernando General Hospital, they went to Pleasantville then proceeded to Rushworth Street Extension in San Fernando when they were approached by three suspects armed with a firearm.
The doctors were robbed and forced into the trunk of the SUV. The vehicle flipped several times and crashed.
Sharma, 38, died on the scene while Marine died at the hospital.
The teen suspect sustained serious injuries and was treated at hospital.
