Three men will appear before a Scarborough Magistrate today, to answer to charges of sexual offences against minors.
According to official police reports, the arrests follow intense investigations spearheaded by W/Supt. George and ASP Nowbutt and supervised by Sgt. Miller of the Tobago Division Child Protection Unit (CPU), in which two of the suspects surrendered to officers.
In the first incident, a 16-year-old female victim reported to CPU officers on April 29th, 2020, that she was sexually assaulted by a man during the period May 2019 to April 2020.
W/Cpl Walters of the Tobago CPU immediately launched enquiries which led to the surrendering of the 39-year-old suspect.
He was subsequently arrested and charged for 17 counts of sexual penetration.
In the second matter, a seven-year-old girl reported to CPU officers on April 28th, 2020 that she too was sexually assaulted by a man.
WPC John of the Tobago CPU commenced an investigation into this report in which the male suspect also surrendered to CPU officers upon learning that he was wanted.
The 25-year-old man was charged for one count of sexual penetration.
In the third incident, CPU officers were told by a 15-year-old victim that she was sexually assaulted by a man on January 18th, 2020.
WPC Scotland-Celestine of the Tobago CPU led the investigation into the report in which the 20-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged for one count of sexual penetration.
These latest cases bring to total 61 persons charged for crimes against children as laid out in the Children’s Act 46:01 for 2020.
All matters have been referred to the Children’s Authority for further support to the victims.
