Tracey Davidson-Celestine, Political Leader of the Tobago Council of the People’s National Movement (PNM), has stated that the PNM will do what it can and must to serve the people of Tobago and their best interests, as well as to regain control of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) once more.
Preliminary results from the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) show the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) won 14 of the 15 electoral seats in Tobago, taking control of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) from the PNM, which had held power on the island for 21 years, or four consecutive terms in office.
The People’s National Movement won the Darrel Spring/Whim electoral district, which was contested by Kelvon Morris.
During her concession speech last night, she admitted that the party will be spending time in contemplation of where it goes from this point forward.
“Of course, we are saddened by the loss, but at the same time it is an opportunity for us to regroup and do introspection, and of course look at new ways in which we can appeal and appease the members of the public out there.”
However, the PNM Tobago leader also gave the party faithful the assurance that the PNM will be relentless in its efforts to regain the support of Tobagonians.
“The People’s National Movement is still strong and alive,” she declared. “We still have our candidates who will continue to work on behalf of the ‘people’s national movement’, as well as the organisation called the People’s National Movement. And of course, we will not stop until we are able to take control of the Tobago House of Assembly, once again.”
Mrs Davidson-Celestine congratulated the incoming Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) on their win at the polls and wished them all the best as they spearhead a new era of governance in Tobago.
