As the country continues to experience very rainy weather today, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has activated a Yellow Level Riverine Flood Alert, which will remain in effect until 12:00 am tomorrow, Friday 30 July 2021.

The forecasters at the Met Service warn that while major rivers are contained at this time, smaller water courses /rivers are currently at elevated levels.

“These levels are expected to gradually rise further as the day progresses,” the Met Service explains in its advisory.  “Intermittent rainfall activity of varying intensities is forecast to continue today, with some improvement by this evening. Localized flooding and ponding can be exacerbated in heavy or prolonged downpours.”

The Met Service is encouraging persons in vulnerable areas to carefully monitor weather conditions and river/water levels.

“Monitor updates from official sources and plan safety measures and do not take unnecessary risks. Avoid driving or wading through flood waters, and follow the instructions of government officials,” the Met Service urges.
