Two men have been charged with sexual assault offences by the Child Protection Unit (CPU).
The first is a 49-year-old man from Moruga.
He was charged with one count of sexual penetration of a minor. The incident allegedly occurred while the 17-year-old victim was asleep.
She awoke to find the suspect sexually abusing her. She ran and later made a report. The CPU made inquiries and arrested and charged the suspect on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Tobago Division Task Force searched the home of a 32-year-old man in Tobago and found a 16-year-old girl who had been reported missing.
The man was charged with one count of sexual penetration of a minor after it was learned that he allegedly had sexual relations with the victim.
He appeared before Magistrate Cedeno at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was denied bail. The matter was adjourned to July 20.
The accused had been charged for a similar offence in 2018. That matter is still pending.
