Two men have been granted $250,000 bail for allegedly kidnapping and beating a Moruga man, and are expected to face the courts again, later this month.

48-year-old contractor Marlon Ali, and 29-year-old mini mart proprietor Enrico Guerra—both of Poui Trace, Moruga—appeared in a virtual hearing before Princes Town Senior Magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine.

Ali and Guerra are charged with the kidnapping of 27-year-old Kamal Kaladeen and causing him grievous bodily harm.  Four other men who were involved in the crime, have not yet been arrested.

The charges, which were laid by PC Nyron Hunte, stemmed from an incident on March 20th at St Mary’s Village, Moruga.

It is alleged that a group of men attacked Kaladeen after accusing him of damaging a vehicle.

The accused were not called upon to answer the charges.  Their defence attorney, Dane Halls, made an application for bail.  However, prosecutor Sgt Shazeed Mohamed objected to bail, because he was concerned the accused would harass the victim as they live on the same street.

The magistrate granted the men bail on the condition that they remain 300 meters from the victim.

The matter was adjourned to April 26th.
