Investigations are ongoing into two murders and two shooting incidents which occurred during a 24-hour period from Sunday into Monday morning.

According to police, around 6.15 pm on Sunday, fruit vendor Roosevelt Cordiell alias “Hammers”, 43, of Amaroosingh Street, Enterprise Street, Chaguanas, was shot multiple times while at the corner of the Southern Main Road and Penco Street, Longdenville, in front of his fruit stall.

Cordiell died on the scene.

Police said while they are yet to determine a motive for the killing, Cordiell was known to them as a drug offender.

Earlier in the day, around 7.30 am Jerome Boodram also called Black Bean, 29, was fatally shot in the head while at Guaratta Village, Maracas St Joseph.

Police said the incident occurred while Boodram was in an abandoned concrete structure. Police said Boodram slept at various locations due to threats made to his life. It is believed that his murder was gang-related. Meanwhile, officers were kept busy responding and investigating several shootings. In the latest incident, investigators said after 9am on Sunday morning an unidentified man was shot while at St Ann’s Street in Carenage. He was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Hours earlier, at Oropune Gardens, police said gunmen opened fire on a group of limers shooting and wounding three men—a 28-year-old from Oropune Gardens (shot in the right arm, left and right calves and left thigh), a 32-year-old from Upper 7th Avenue, Malick, Barataria (shot in the left and right legs) and a 52-year-old from Oropune Gardens (shot in the right thigh and right big toe).
