Two men have been charged with sexual assault offences by the Child Protection Unit (CPU) of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). The first a 49-year-old man from Moruga was charged with one count of sexual penetration of a minor.

He is scheduled to appear before a Princes Town Magistrates’ Court today. According to police reports, the incident allegedly occurred while the 17-year-old victim was asleep.

She awakened to find the suspect sexually abusing her. She ran and later made a report.

The CPU made enquiries and arrested and charged the suspect on June 21st, 2020.

In a separate incident, the Tobago Division Task Force executed a search warrant at the home of a 32-year-old man in Tobago.

There, they found a 16- year-old girl who had been reported missing on May 20th, 2020.

CPU officers were informed and conducted enquiries.

The accused was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of sexual penetration of a minor after it was learned that he allegedly had sexual relations with the victim.

He appeared before Magistrate Cedeno at the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court earlier today.

He was denied bail and the matter was postponed to July 20th, 2020. The accused had been charged for a similar offence in 2018. That matter is still pending. Investigations were conducted by W/Supt. (Ag) George, ASP (Ag) Sookdeo, ASP Nowbutt, and supervised by W/Insp Francis and Sergeant Mille
