Both men were charged with multiple counts of sexual penetration of a child and sexual touching of a child, in their respective cases.

Two men were charged by officers of the Child Protection Unit (CPU) for three counts of sexual penetration of a child and four counts of sexual touching of a child following intelligence-led exercises, yesterday.

The exercises were spearheaded by W/Supt. (Ag.) George and ASP Nowbutt, and supervised by Insps. (Ag.) Andrews and Francis along with Sgt. James and WPC Johnson.

In the first incident, officers of the Port-of-Spain CPU, in collaboration with officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), proceeded to Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain, on Thursday 6th February 2020. Once there, they arrested a male suspect. He was charged by Cpl Neptune of the Port-of-Spain CPU with two counts of sexual penetration and three counts of sexual touching of a child during the period 2016 to 2020.

The 49-year-old male relative of the victim was taken into custody and is expected to face a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today, Friday 7th February, 2020.

In the second incident, officers of the Western CPU responded to a report of sexual assault against a child on Monday 3rd February 2020.

According to official police reports, officers proceeded to La Puerta Avenue, Diego Martin, where they arrested a male suspect for one count of sexual penetration of a child and one count sexual touching of a child.

The 58-year-old man was charged with the offences by WPC Kerr of Western CPU.

He appeared before Port-of-Spain Magistrate Marissa Gomez on Thursday 6th February 2020, and was granted bail in the sum of $100,000.

The matter was adjourned to March 5th 2020.

The CPU is urging parents and guardians to be vigilant concerning their children’s overall wellbeing and safety.
