An unidentified man was fatally struck while attempting to cross the Churchill Roosevelt Highway by a vehicle driven by a police officer.
According to a police report, around 11 pm on Sunday, the driver, who is also a police officer assigned to the Besson Street Police Station was proceeding west along the highway in the vicinity of Food Basket Supermarket, when on reaching the intersection he proceeded through the green light when he struck a man crossing the highway.
The driver stopped and made checks and saw the man lying motionless on the highway.
The man was taken to the Arima Hospital by ambulance and then to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police officers are asking members of the public for help in identifying the victim said to be a man of African descent, clad in a black and white t-shirt and a red blue and white sweat pants and a black, white and red sneaker.
