The Unity of the People (UTP) political party will contest the upcoming bye-election for the electoral district of Debe South in the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC).

As such, political leader of the Tobago based party, Nickosy Phillips, encouraged citizens willing to represent the constituency to submit their resume for screening.

Phillips maintained that the country’s democracy was under threat by both the Government and the Opposition, resulting in the UTP’s thrust to provide alternative leadership.

Despite failing to win any seats at last month’s Tobago House of Assembly election, Phillips said the party will continue to contest all elections.

The bye-election, which is carded for February 7th, is as a result of the death of local government councillor Purushottam Singh.
