Antonio Cantoue, 29, of St. Pablo Trace, Valencia, appeared before Magistrate Armina Deonarinesingh at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court on June 14th charged with stealing a vehicle. He was granted $200,000 bail.
According to police reports, on June 12th around 6 am, a security guard employed by Moosai Enterprises Limited, checked and secured the compound of the construction site, located at the corner of Irving and Sutton Street San Fernando and left.
Upon his return at 11.30 am he discovered one yellow Caterpillar Backhoe valued at $700,000 missing. He contacted the San Fernando Police Station and members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the scene.
PC Hamilton of the San Fernando CID conducted enquiries and on inspection of the scene it was revealed that entrance was allegedly gained by unlocking the gate on the eastern side of the compound.
Based on investigations, the Security Guard was arrested and the Caterpillar Backhoe was recovered in Valencia. PC Hamilton subsequently charged the accused for the offence of larceny motor vehicle The accused is expected to reappear virtually before the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 13th July, 2021.
