An attempt by a motorist to avoid hitting a cyclist resulted in a woman being hospitalised on Christmas Eve following a morning accident along the Beetham Highway yesterday.

According to reports, shortly after 10 am Jacqueline Alexis was driving her vehicle along the Westbound lane near Bhagwansingh’s Hardware Ltd when she swerved to avoid hitting the car of another motorist, who had taken evasive action to in a bid to not collide into a man on a bicycle.

Alexis’s vehicle jumped the median as a result and ran into a Hiace which was headed east.

She suffered injuries to her chest and her hip.

Fire officers from Wrightson Road headquarters responded to the accident and were required to help the woman out of her vehicle.

Alexis was taken to the St Augustine Private Hospital, where she is said to be a stable condition.

The accident caused mid-morning traffic yesterday for commuters heading out of Port-of-Spain.
